The eternal battle of good vs. evil is played out on the dragstrip in James Ibusuki's, "Between Heaven and Hell"the much anticipated follow-up to his long sold-out lithograph, "Night of the Altereds." Here, Ibusuki returns to those wild and unpredictable "hot rods from hell": the extinct AA/Fuel Altereds.
"Between Heaven and Hell" takes place on a Saturday night in 1968, at the San Francisco Bay area's Fremont Raceway. Driver Dale Emery manhandles Rich Guasco's ferocious, metalflake-burgundy beast known as "Pure Hell." Sporting the most famous flame job in drag racing, the '32 Austin Bantam is powered by a Chrysler Hemi that appears to leap out of its stubby chassis. Emery's rival is Leon Fitzgerald in his angel-adorned "Pure Heaven." This red, white and blue beauty can barely contain its big Chevy rat motor. Spewing exhaust flames and billowing smoke, these radical roadsters' combination of a short wheelbase and fuel dragster engine ensured unpredictable guardrail-to-guardrail excitement!

When Corporate America discovered drag racing in the 1970's, their advertising dollars went to the dragsters and funny cars whose large body panels could showcase a sponsor's name. They had no use for so-called "unsafe" race cars with tiny bodies that could barely contain a wild paint job. When economics hastened the fuel altered's demise, die-hard drag fans hopefully chanted, "Fuel Altereds Forever!"
Unfortunately, these cries fell on deaf ears, but Ibusuki's brush strokes bring the ground pounding AA/FA's back to life with this museum-quality lithograph. Strictly limited to 850 numbers, the print comes complete with a certificate of authenticity. The image area is 14"x 31" with ample borders for framing. In addition to being signed and numbered by the artist, each print is autographed by Rich Guasco and Leon Fitzgerald!
IMPORTANT NOTICE
The edition of 850 lithographs and 85 Artist Proofs are completely SOLD OUT. No other editions of this painting will ever be offered.
I would like to personally thank all of the collectors who helped to make this a very popular limited-edition. Your enthusiastic acceptance of "Between Heaven and Hell" has given me added inspiration to continue painting the most memorable moments in drag racing history!
